The Transformative Action Award special mention recognises a city or civic organisation for its outstanding application and efforts to build more sustainable, resilient local communities. In honour of the European Year of Youth, the 2022 special mention recognised an action that put young people front and centre in its strategy to combat climate change:
Young People Tackling the Climate Emergency, Barcelona, Spain brings science directly to students by fostering a dialogue between young people (ages 11 to 18) and scientists on different topics related to climate change. Based on their interaction with scientists, the students design, develop and carry-out various initiatives to help mitigate the climate emergency. Learn more, here!
2022 marks the sixth anniversary of the Transformative Action Award, which recognises ongoing or concluded Transformative Actions - inspired by the 15 pathways outlined in the Basque Declaration - that spearhead the socio-cultural, socio-economic and technological transformation of societies and further the implementation of the European Green Deal at local level.
The award is organised jointly by ICLEI Europe and the City of Aalborg (Denmark) with support from the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
